Corrections

Every material factual error we have published — what we said, what is actually true, how long it was live, and the evidence that settled it.

We log a correction whenever a load-bearing claim was wrong in a way a reader could have acted on — a fee, a threshold, a deadline, an eligibility rule or the legal status of something. Typos and wording changes are not corrections and do not appear here.

Each entry states how long the error was live. That number is uncomfortable on purpose: the time between publishing something wrong and noticing is the honest measure of an editorial process, and ours is documented rather than quietly repaired.

We said: That a Turkish residence permit requires monthly income of 1.5× the minimum wage — about 49,545 TRY (roughly USD 1,150).
Actually: Short-term and student residence permits carry no published income threshold at all; Göç İdaresi accepts the applicant's own declaration of means unless it requests documents. Only the family permit has a published test: one-third of the minimum wage per family member, with the total not below the minimum wage. The 1.5× figure is the Ministry of Labour's minimum salary an employer must pay a foreign employee — a work-permit rule, not a residence-permit one.
Why it mattered: A reader with modest means could have concluded they were ineligible to live in Türkiye legally and abandoned an application that would have succeeded. This was a false barrier on our most important topic.

We said: That Türkiye's 20-year exemption on foreign-source income was 'a developing proposal, not a filing position' and should be treated as proposed rather than enacted.
Actually: It was enacted as Law No. 7582, published in Official Gazette No. 33270 on 4 June 2026, and applies to people deemed Turkish tax resident from 1 January 2026.
Why it mattered: Readers deciding whether to establish Turkish tax residency were told the basis for that decision did not yet exist. Someone who trusted us may have deferred or abandoned a move that now carries twenty years of exemption on foreign income.
How we settled it: The enacted text in Official Gazette No. 33270, corroborated by multiple independent Turkish law and audit firms.

We said: That Esenyurt, Bağcılar, Sultangazi and Esenler were closed to new foreigner address registration, and that Fatih, Avcılar, Küçükçekmece and others were restricted.
Actually: Göç İdaresi reopened every Istanbul district and mahalle on 10 June 2026, reversing the closures in force since 2022.
Why it mattered: Readers planning a move would have ruled out the most affordable expat districts in Istanbul, or doubted a landlord who correctly told them registration was possible.
How we settled it: Göç İdaresi's own press announcement, corroborated across multiple independent Turkish-language outlets.
