How to use this checklist

The list is split into two sections: things to handle before flying to Türkiye, and things to handle after arrival. Tick items as you complete them — your progress is stored in your browser's local storage, so it persists between visits without an account.

The most useful first step is to run the cost-of-living and tax residency calculators while you're still in your home country, before booking flights or signing up for international moves. The numbers often change relocation timing decisions.

Documents to prepare before flying

  • Passport with sufficient validity (typically 60+ days beyond your intended stay).
  • Marriage and birth certificates, apostilled and translated.
  • Academic credentials, if relevant for work or schooling.
  • Bank statements showing means of support during the residence permit application.
  • Several biometric photos per applicant.

First two weeks after arrival

Plan flexible accommodation for the first 2–4 weeks. The priorities in the first fortnight are usually: Turkish SIM, tax number, residence permit appointment, address registration and acceptable health insurance. Bank account and long-term rental can usually wait until the second half of the first month.
