Practical visit notes
- Istanbul is split across multiple service points; the appointment system routes you to a building based on your registered address — do not show up to the wrong location.
- Online appointments through e-ikamet typically open 30–60 days in advance and are claimed within hours; check daily during high-demand windows (September–November, late spring).
- Bring originals AND photocopies of every document; counter staff routinely keep the photocopies and hand back originals.
- Plan to arrive 15–20 minutes before your slot; late arrivals are usually rebooked rather than fitted in.
- Many applicants find a Turkish-speaking friend or paid translator helpful — counter Turkish proficiency varies and English support is not guaranteed.
