Short-term and student residence permits have no published income threshold

Göç İdaresi publishes no minimum income for short-term or student residence permits; it accepts the applicant's own declaration of means unless it asks for documents. Only the family permit has a published test. We previously quoted a 1.5× minimum-wage figure, which is a work-permit salary rule.

A figure circulates widely online, and appeared on this site until August 2026: that a Turkish residence permit needs monthly income of 1.5× the minimum wage.

That is not the residence-permit rule.

  • Short-term and student permits: no published income threshold. Göç İdaresi accepts your own declaration of sufficient means, and may ask for supporting documents.
  • Family permit: the sponsor must show income of at least one-third of the minimum wage per family member, and the total must not be below the minimum wage.
  • The 1.5× figure is the Ministry of Labour's minimum salary an employer must pay a foreign employee. It belongs to work permits, not residence permits.

If you had ruled yourself out because of the 1.5× figure, check again. The income requirements guide and the application planner now follow the published rules. The original error is in our corrections log.
