Russia is the single largest source country for foreigners moving to Türkiye in 2026. Visa-free entry, time-zone proximity, established Russian-language services in Antalya and Istanbul, and accessible residence permits all combine to make Türkiye the most-used relocation destination for Russian-speakers leaving Russia.

The Antalya Russian-speaking community is the largest in any non-CIS country, with full Russian-language doctors, schools, lawyers and real estate networks. Istanbul has a smaller but growing community concentrated in Şişli, Beşiktaş and the Asian-side districts. Türkiye's relatively low cost of living vs. Western Europe and the absence of Schengen restrictions are persistent drivers.

Türkiye does not require a visa for Russian citizens for stays up to 60 days per visit. Longer stays require a residence permit, which Russians can typically apply for in-country. Banking access has tightened since 2022 — opening a Turkish bank account as a Russian now usually requires a residence permit or a Turkish tax number plus active address.

Visa-free entry · 60 days

Russian passport holders can enter Türkiye without a visa for up to 60 days per visit. Longer stays require a residence permit applied for in-country.

Largest Russian community in Antalya

Antalya — particularly Konyaaltı and Lara — has Türkiye's biggest Russian-speaking community with full Russian-language services.

Banking has tightened

Since 2022, opening a Turkish bank account as a Russian usually requires a residence permit + Turkish tax number. Plan this for after arrival, not before.

Citizenship via property

USD 400,000 property purchase route remains open to Russian buyers and is one of the most popular paths to a Turkish passport for Russians.

What do Russians need to know before moving to Türkiye?

  • Bring multiple printed copies of all key documents (passport, marriage/birth certificates, no-criminal-record) — apostilled and notarised translations are standard.
  • The most-used Russian-friendly residence permit type is the short-term tourist permit, applied for at e-ikamet within 30 days of arrival.
  • Most Russian families converge on Antalya (Konyaaltı, Lara, Muratpaşa) or Istanbul (Şişli, Beşiktaş, Maltepe) — pre-arrival reconnaissance trips are common before signing a long lease.
  • Russian schools (with Turkish accreditation) exist in Antalya — "Antalya International School", "Антальская гимназия" — alongside private Turkish schools.
  • Currency: Russian rouble has limited convertibility in Turkish banks; most arrivals convert to USD/EUR before transfer or use Turkish accounts of family members already there.

Do Russians need a visa for Türkiye?

Visa-free for 60 days per visit (180-day rolling period). Longer stays require a Turkish residence permit, applied for in-country at e-ikamet.gov.tr. Russia is in the Bracket-B/C nationality range for residence permit fees in our calculator.

How are Russians taxed when moving to Türkiye?

Türkiye and Russia have a double tax treaty. If you become Turkish tax resident, the treaty determines which country taxes which income type. Treat the treaty as the starting point — and consult a Turkish tax advisor before settling on a long-term plan.

How big is the Russian community in Türkiye?

Estimated 100,000+ Russian-speakers have established medium-to-long-term residence in Türkiye since 2022, with Antalya, Istanbul and Mersin the largest concentration.
